Part 16/22:
Construction of the Guang Tunnel in China started in the 1970s, with residents of the namesake village pulling their money, buying tools, and starting the work themselves. In the toughest sections, they advanced just a meter in 3 days, using mainly hammers and chisels, and in particularly challenging spots, they resorted to dynamite. After 5 years, the 1.2-kilometer-long, 5-meter-high, and 4-meter-wide tunnel was complete, initially used by pedestrians and later opened to vehicles.
