Eventually, Ernest unlocks a small building in which he believes a water pump is stored. However, upon activation, it disappointingly fails to deliver any water, forcing them to push their mule, which is already under duress, to continue without hydration. Their encounters with the "watermen," a group empowered by government contracts to control access to water, become crucial as they trade supplies for precious liquid but continue to find the cost prohibitive.
