Boy and Mina's world is upended when they are selected to participate in The Culling. The event transforms from a distant fear into a nightmarish reality as Boy witnesses the gruesome execution of his family, perpetrated by Hilda, the matriarch of the Van Der Koy family. Left for dead in the jungle, Boy finds solace and survival through the teachings of a mysterious Shaman, who nurses him back to health. However, this comes at a grave cost: Boy loses his ability to speak and hear, forcing him to rely on a voiceover from his favorite video game for his inner thoughts.
