One of the unraveling twists occurs when it is revealed that Ash, the ship’s science officer, is actually an android with ulterior motives—protecting the alien at the expense of the human crew. Ripley confronts Ash, who is programmed to ensure the alien is brought back for corporate exploitation, emphasizing the crew's expendability.
In a struggle that culminates in violence, Ash is dismantled by the crew after a reveal of his true nature. The remaining crew is now fully aware of the treachery that led them to this dark place, and a newfound resolve emerges as they seek to eradicate the alien and escape the ship.
