It soon becomes apparent that the dangerous interplay between human activity and nature has devolved into a catastrophic scenario. Clips reveal the world grappling with climate change, eco-terrorism, and a pandemic engendered by pathogens thawing from the permafrost. This menacing backdrop sets the stage for David's team's encounters with an ancient predator: the polar bear.
Their first run-in, which consists of a tranquilizer-gone-wrong, leads them to a shocking discovery—the polar bear devoured the carcass of a long-frozen mammoth, which emerged as the ice retreated. Shortly after, the bear mysteriously dies, foreshadowing the horrors that lie ahead.
