Royal’s memory of his early life is a blank slate, as he was orphaned at a young age. His two sons echo both his hopes and his fears: Rhett, aspiring to follow in his father's bull-riding footsteps, and Perry, a devoted father to his daughter, Amy. Rebecca’s absence casts a shadow over the family; Cecilia dreams of her often but chooses to keep these dreams hidden from Perry, fearing it will only deepen his pain.
Opposite to their plot of land is neighbor Wayne, a rancher grappling with his failing health. During a peculiar night, Wayne believes foreboding signs are in the air and warns Cecilia of an impending change. Skeptical of Wayne’s ramblings, she brushes off his concerns, unaware that their lives are about to take a dramatic turn.
