The unraveling begins when Royal discovers two cattle are missing. During the search, they encounter Autumn, a peculiar young woman who claims to be a poet in need of inspiration and requests to camp on their property. Despite initial hesitations, Royal agrees, unwittingly bringing someone with unknown intentions into their lives.
As Royal and his sons investigate the missing cattle, they cross paths with Wayne’s sons, who drop a bombshell: Royal's fences are encroaching on their property. The ultimatum placed on him sets the stage for conflict, as does the discovery of an endless pit on their ranch, which Royal cannot explain. When he interacts with the pit, he is troubled by visions and harbingers of bad news regarding Rebecca's case.
