Oh Mal-soon is portrayed as a fiery and determined matriarch, who, despite her grumbling, embodies resilience against life's adversities. Living with her son, Hyun-chul, a university professor, her daughter-in-law, Ae-ja, and her two grandchildren, Ji-ha and Ha-na, her unwelcome interference and outdated beliefs increasingly stress those around her. Ae-ja, struggling with depression herself, finds Mal-soon's domineering nature particularly trying.
