Accompanied by his father, Chief Uri, and friend Kaleb, Savan's excursion into the forest begins with promise as they stalk a mutated sloth. Their successful hunt soon turns tragic when they encounter a friend infected by the mutant plague—a gruesome reminder of the stakes they face. Savan’s refusal to end the infected boy’s suffering results in more tragedy, challenging his resolve and loyalty, and unveiling the grim reality of their existence.
As the group returns to their village, tension arises. Chief Uri pleads with the elders to consider relocation for safety, but their unwavering faith in fate stymies any sense of urgency. Meanwhile, Kaleb yearns for a chance to forge his own path, mirroring his father’s quest for truth—a journey that cost him his life.
