In the dystopian world of Death Race, the year is 2012, and America is engulfed in chaos. The economy has collapsed, unemployment is at an all-time high, and crime is rampant. In a bid to manage the overwhelmed prison system, private corporations step in and take control, transforming correctional facilities into profit-driven enterprises. Among these is Terminal Island Penitentiary, where viewers tune in to watch brutal cage fights between inmates. As the audience quickly grows bored of traditional violence, the concept of the Death Race emerges—a high-octane, lethal contest where inmates race modified vehicles in a bid for their freedom.
