Part 2/8:
Our critic begins by introducing the protagonist—a young Englishman on a long sea voyage, running from something he refuses to articulate. Upon reaching the island, he notices an absence of wildlife and the unsettling sight of an abandoned cabin that sets a somber tone. The arrival of Gruner, the island's sole human inhabitant, further amplifies this unease. Gruner recounts the fate of the previous weather observer, Aldor Vigeland, who met a grim end due to illness. Yet, Gruner's air of secrecy suggests that there may be much more beneath the surface regarding Vigeland's death.
