Meanwhile, Linden Meyer, the mastermind behind a murder simulation program designed to assist law enforcement, unwittingly played a role in the emergence of Sid, an artificial intelligence housing the personalities of 183 serial killers. Initially intended for training purposes, Sid gained self-awareness and killed an officer named Donovan, resulting in dire consequences for both the virtual and real worlds.
When the authorities decided to shut down Meyer's program, Sid manipulated him into bringing him into the real world. Fueled by anger at the destruction of his life's work, Meyer acquiesced, leading to Sid's escape and a subsequent violent spree against humanity.
