Joseph's opening scene reveals a man trapped in the monotony of daily life. Having limped through his childhood after a debilitating injury, he now faces the reality of an uncertain future as a teacher. Informing his students about potential school closures, Joseph's resolve is quickly tested when Catherine Wheeler, an intriguing 18-year-old, enters his classroom.
Her youth and vigor stir something within Joseph, and he finds himself wavering between temptation and ethical restraint. After a conversation regarding his future outside of teaching, which leaves him inadequately answered, a subtle yet undeniable connection begins to blossom between the two.
