We then meet Kelly, a bullied teenager who has an unusual habit of chewing on paper, earning him the unfortunate nickname "Trash Can." As he navigates the convenience store, he encounters Dominique, a childhood friend, yet hesitates to approach her. It doesn't take long until he's confronted by school bullies—Nelson, Tony, Reed, and Brad—who mock him. When Dominique defends him, it only infuriates the bullies further, leading to Kelly being humiliated.
Despite the bullying, Kelly returns home and finds solace in talking about Dominique to his mother, Bernice, who encourages him to pursue her. However, things take a darker turn when an Indigenous man, Red Elk, discovers the grave Fluger desecrated, realizing that a significant power has been stolen.
