In attempts to better understand the curse, Jay and her friends track down Hugh, or Jeff, only to find that he can offer little comfort except to confirm the entity's legitimacy and the cursed life they unknowingly share. The group decides to retreat to a lake house for safety. They relish a brief period of bliss, but the impending dread re-emerges when the entity confronts Jay, leading to a chaotic attempt to confront the situation with brute force—a failed and disastrous attempt.
