In the midst of the swirling dust and heat of Los Angeles in 1937, an old man named Hanan Fuller pens a letter meant for his close apprentice, Douglas Hall. The letter, however, contains unsettling truths, hinting at the bleak and artificial nature of the world around them. After entrusting the letter to a bartender named Ashton, Fuller departs, unknowingly setting off a series of events that will unravel the very fabric of reality for each character involved.
