Here, the borders of their dire financial situation come into sharp focus, leading to Houdini's reluctant decision to perform a stunt that involves escaping from a closed trunk while handcuffed. Despite initial doubt from the audience, a policeman's presence lends tension to the scene through his derision and subsequent challenge with authentic handcuffs. Houdini, utilizing his sleight of hand, manages to impress the audience, marking the beginning of his ascent to fame across America.
