Desperately seeking a way out, Padak attempts to break free from the aquarium, using sheer will and determination. His naïve efforts elicit harsh criticism from the other inhabitants of the tank, particularly from an old soul fish that insists on adopting a more passive approach to survival: pretending to be dead. The soul fish, having spent years hiding from the cook, represents the discouraging reality of life behind aquarium glass.

As Padak continues to dream of the ocean, he becomes increasingly aware of the terrible truth: life in captivity only leads to death—either through consumption by humans or as a result of despair. Yet, he refuses to succumb to hopelessness, yearning for freedom and the sea.
