The tale begins in a seemingly ordinary household with a young nanny, whose late-night routine becomes overshadowed by her charge, Mary, and a prank involving a frightening mask. Mary, while ostensibly just a child full of mischief, introduces a chilling urban legend to her caretaker regarding a mysterious figure known as “Smiley.” According to Mary, summoning this figure occurs through an online chat—an initiation of sorts into a darker world of unknown consequences. The babysitter’s bemusement turns into concern as the chatroom’s ominous hold manifests in the real world, igniting a cycle of fear that spirals out of control.
