Part 2/9:
As his parents decorate their home for Christmas, Liam approaches with a letter he had written to Santa. His mother is delighted, but his father, Bill, dismisses the idea with concern, believing that Liam is too old to cling to the myth of a jolly figure who fulfills children's wishes. Bill is particularly worried about Liam fitting in at his new school, especially considering the challenges he faces with dyslexia. To ease his parents' fears, Liam fabricates a story about having made friends with a boy named Gibby and playing soccer together—though the truth is they are not involved in sports.
