In the aftermath of the catastrophic economic collapse in the U.S. in 2012, the nation faced a surge in unemployment and an alarming rise in crime rates, leading to a historical spike in prison populations. This troubling reality, however, opened the door for private corporations to take the reins of the prison system with a focus on profitability. One such facility, located on Terminal Island, resulted in an unexpected and sinister phenomenon: prisoners were turned into gladiators, fighting for the entertainment of a virtual audience. This morphed into a popular underground sensation, and over time, transformed into a brutal racing competition known as Death Race.
