German scientist Martin Biekelski and his colleague Ralph Weinsteil are studying California's condors, large birds that glide on thermal updrafts. By equipping these birds with GPS trackers, researchers hope to analyze their flight patterns and improve weather forecasting, thus providing potential warnings for urban populations in the face of impending storms.
