The Danube River, the lifeblood of Serbia, has sculpted its culture and geography for thousands of years. Particularly notable is the Iron Gate gorge, which showcases breathtaking rapids now transformed into a serene artificial lake, forming part of the Djerdap National Park. This area presents a sanctuary for various wildlife, including herds of chamois, who have retreated to higher altitudes in the lush, steep hills, evading human hunters as well as their natural predators, the elusive lynxes.
