This internal conflict made him hesitant to discuss his lack of spiritual experiences with others in the church, as he feared being judged or seen as inadequate in his faith.
It wasn't until he confided in a friend, who shared similar sentiments about their upbringings, that Benson began to ease some of his anxieties. His friend reassured him, “Thank goodness I feel the same way,” illuminating that he was not alone in his struggles.
A Shift Towards Secular Spirituality
Now at 22 years old, Benson has transitioned to a more secular approach to spirituality. He expressed his desire to forge his own path, saying, “I don’t want to be a part of one religion. I have my own opinions. Some are from this religion, some are from this religion, some are from no religion.”
