Part 2/12:
In the aftermath of World War II, tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union escalated into the Cold War. Spearheaded by a race for technological domination, both powers sought to establish their military might, with each claiming victories in technological advancements and military capabilities. Notably, 1957 was a tumultuous year for the U.S.; the successful launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik triggered panic within American political circles. The urgent need to demonstrate military and aerospace supremacy propelled the U.S. to redirect its focus northwards to Greenland, a strategic location that would enable missile launches with increased accuracy toward the Soviet Union.
