Coral reefs are strikingly biodiverse, accounting for a mere 1,500 species of coral that yield around 20,000 species of fish—almost half of all fish species on earth. However, this beauty comes at a cost. Approximately 20% of coral reefs have already been lost, with predictions indicating that a further 30% to 40% are in jeopardy due to climate change and environmental degradation.
