Further south in Fiordland, a different marine ecosystem comes into view. Carved by glaciers, this area features deep fiords, with Milford Sound regarded as an extraordinary natural wonder. The harsh weather conditions and heavy rainfall, averaging up to seven meters a year, create a challenging environment for researchers. Nevertheless, scientists, including Captain Rob Sway and marine ecologist Shaun Hagley, undertake critical surveys to understand the species inhabiting these unique underwater landscapes.
