Parallel to the Carthaginians’ dominance in the Mediterranean, the Germanic tribes were establishing their own societies across Northern Europe. Julius Caesar coined the term "Germans" to describe a collection of tribes spread across regions from the Baltic Sea to the Alps. Initially agrarian and simple in their way of life, the Germanic peoples gradually became known for their martial prowess.
