Part 3/8:
In the depths of winter, a curious young river otter emerges from its den, demonstrating the instinctual drive to hunt even while conditions remain severe. Yet, the true test is for smaller species like the kingfisher, which relies on fishing to survive. This tiny bird requires the catch of ten small fish daily to stay healthy, a monumental challenge in the harsh cold where food is scarce.
Rebirth in Spring
As the cold winter begins to relent, the alpine landscape awakens with new life. Snowdrops and other hardy flowers pierce through the ice, signaling the arrival of early spring. The warming days coax butterflies from hibernation, while other wildlife begins to stir, including the basking adders and the ever-vigilant beaver, who tirelessly breaks through the ice in search of food.
