Historically, African elephants roamed widely across the continent. However, their populations have significantly dwindled, with Botswana now home to roughly one-third of these magnificent mammals. This recovery is largely attributed to stringent protective measures and effective anti-poaching policies that have helped stabilize their numbers.
Botswana, spanning an area more than twice the size of the United Kingdom, offers ideal conditions for elephants, particularly along its northern riverbanks, where food and water are readily available. During the dry season, these riverbanks act as a gathering place for herds seeking sustenance.
