Part 6/8:
More recently, the Louvre underwent a striking transformation with the introduction of the glass pyramid entrance, designed by architect I. M. Pei. Erected in the 1990s, the pyramid is a bold departure from classical architecture yet harmonizes with the historical fabric of the Louvre. This modernistic structure, composed of 603 glass panes, capped an underground complex that significantly expanded the museum’s access and operational capacity, establishing a synergy between contemporary design and historic grandeur.
