As Conor's life spirals further out of control with his mother’s hospitalizations, he lashes out in anger—destroying his grandmother’s possessions in a fit of rage. In this act, he is desperately trying to exert control over the chaos surrounding him, yet it only leads to deeper feelings of shame and sorrow.
The second story from the monster reveals another layer of complexity, creating opportunities for Conor to reflect on the consequences of decisions and the conflict between desires and duty. Each tale reinforces the lesson that life is not black-and-white but filled with gray areas that reflect the struggles each character—and by extension, Conor—faces.
