Part 3/8:
A month into the mission, the ship's AI, William, alerts Niko of a disastrous navigation miscalculation involving dark matter. Understanding the severity of the situation, they hatch a plan to utilize the slingshot effect from the massive star Sirius. However, while executing the maneuver, the ship sustains heavy damage, leading Niko to prioritize safety over speed.
This decision causes tension among the crew, particularly with Ian, the vice leader, who feels time is of the essence with the alien artifact on Earth. Ian garners enough support to overthrow Niko as leader, resulting in a power struggle. Yet, when Ian's reckless orders nearly lead the ship to destruction, Niko is forced to reclaim leadership, preventing disaster but leaving her with the burden of dissent among the crew.
