Part 2/9:
The revelation sends shockwaves through the team and mission control back on Earth. Despite the concerns, the mission continues, and as they approach Mars, Sarah goes into labor. Tragically, complications arise shortly after delivering a baby boy, leading to Sarah's untimely death—a consequence of the planet's low gravity.
A Life on Mars
Back on Earth, the team becomes concerned when they learn about the baby's abnormal medical condition. Due to the gravity differences, the child's heart and body differ drastically from those of an Earth-born child. To save the infant's life, one painful decision becomes clear: Gardner, as the baby is named, must remain on Mars. The Genesis company resolves to keep Gardner's existence a secret to preserve the Mars project and secure future funding.
