When Hunter received her new passport — which she applied for after losing her previous one while in Spain — she expected a straightforward process as she had successfully received female gender markers on her related identification documents since her teens. However, to her astonishment, she found that her gender marker had been changed to male. This alteration left her feeling a mix of disbelief and frustration.
“In all honesty, my initial reaction was one of skepticism,” Hunter admitted in her video. “I thought, I’ll believe it when I see it. And today, I saw it.” She highlighted that she filled out the necessary forms advocating for her identity accurately, indicating female as her gender. Yet, what she received back contradicted her expectations.
