The trapped water from subducted oceanic plates has been shown to lower the melting point of surrounding rocks, thereby fueling magma production even at depths considered unconventional for volcanic activity. This hydrous mantle eliminates the need for collision-driven magma generation, suggesting alternative pathways for the development of isolated volcanoes like Mount Paektu.
