In response to these crises, the Great Green Wall project sought to cover approximately 2.6 million square kilometers—comparable to the size of India—by planting forests across northern China. The initiative involved the planting of billions of trees, combining technological innovations with immense human labor. By 2009, over 193,000 square miles of land were covered, all of which required the dedicated efforts of millions of workers, including government personnel and local farmers.
