One of the most significant legacies of Melkor is embodied in the Misty Mountains, known as the Ered Mithrin. These mountains, extending from north to south across Middle-earth, were crafted not only as a natural barrier but as a symbol of Melkor's malevolence. Initially erected during the Era of the Trees to obstruct the Valar, the mountains later impeded the journey of the Elves.

Many Elves, faced with this towering obstacle, turned back, eventually resettling as the Nandor. Thus, the Misty Mountains became a dividing line, a testament to the effects of Melkor's corruption separating families and impeding progress.
