In Rivendell, young Aragorn was known as Estel, meaning "hope." Elrond concealed his true identity from him to shield him from Sauron, who was on an incessant quest to find the heir of Isildur. As Estel grew, Elrond eventually revealed his heritage when Aragorn came of age at twenty, gifting him significant heirlooms, including the shards of Narsil, the sword that once cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand. Despite this revelation, Elrond withheld the scepter of Anúminas, believing Aragorn must yet prove worthy of kingship.
