After years enveloped in conflict, both sides fortified their positions, leading to a brutal siege that lasted seven years, culminating in 3441. Critical confrontations brought many valiant leaders to their end, including the deaths of Elendil and Gil-galad during the final confrontation with Sauron, where Elendil's son Isildur seized the opportunity to sever the One Ring from Sauron's finger, apparently sealing his fate.
The Decline of the Last Alliance
With Sauron's defeat, albeit temporary, the toll of the Last Alliance was notable. The remnants of the Elven and Men armies were left bereft of their leaders and their kingdoms diminished in power. Gondor rose from the ashes but faced its challenges, while Arnor dwindled without recoverable strength.
