Once Melkor was captured and imprisoned for three ages, he pleaded for clemency upon his release, and eventually, Manwë's compassion led him to believe that Melkor had changed. Unfortunately, this naïveté resulted in dire consequences, as Melkor returned to wreak havoc in Valinor, showcasing the dangers of unchecked forgiveness.
