Claudinho's move to a less competitive market like Qatar has been labeled as controversial. Although there is a significant financial incentive, it comes at the expense of competitive growth. The Palmeiras football club had reportedly reached an agreement to bring Claudinho from Russia’s Zenit for €17 million (around R$66 million). However, just as the contracts were about to be signed, Claudinho and his advisor changed their minds, infuriating Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras.
Pereira stated that she had spoken with Claudinho multiple times about his intentions concerning a move to the Middle East, which adds layers to the growing frustration. Her assertion that only players who truly want to wear the Palmeiras badge should join the club seems justified given the circumstances.
