During their encounter, Fingolfin managed to injure Morgoth, and despite being a divine being, Morgoth’s inability to heal from such a wound demonstrated the extent of his diminished capabilities. Both Morgoth and Sauron strategically chose to invest their energy into endeavors that promised greater longevity, all while steering clear of becoming frail and powerless as Saruman did.
Gandalf: The Chosen One with Restrictions
In contrast to Sauron and Morgoth, Gandalf, as one of the Istari, did not rebel against Eru Ilúvatar; thus, his energy was regularly replenished by the Creator. However, unlike a free-range sorcerer, Gandalf operated under strict limitations imposed by the Valar, aiming to foster unity among the free peoples of Middle-Earth against Sauron.
