Driven by rage and impulsivity, Fëanor led a majority of the Noldor out of Valinor on a perilous journey to Middle-earth, but he did so without careful planning. Upon reaching the shores, they were met with a vast ocean, and faced with the reality of their adventure, Fëanor crucially needed ships to continue.
Fëanor decided to approach the Teleri, another group of elves known for their affinity to the sea and their splendid ships located at Alqualondë. When Fëanor passionately pleaded for their assistance, he was met with resistance. The Teleri refused to join his rebellion or lend a single ship, remaining loyal to the Valar. This refusal deeply angered Fëanor, who, feeling cornered, decided to seize the vessels by force, leading to the devastating outbreak of civil war among the elves.
