The story of the phial dates back to the journey of Frodo and Sam, two hobbits entrusted with the perilous undertaking of destroying the One Ring. Along their journey, they encountered the wise and powerful Galadriel in Lothlórien. In a moment of great significance, she presented the phial to Frodo, explaining its purpose: “This phial contains the light of Eärendil, that was gathered in my fountain.”
Eärendil, a legendary figure in Tolkien’s mythology, was tasked by the Valar to watch over the skies. His light, captured in this phial, symbolizes a beacon of hope against the encroaching darkness. When Galadriel gifted this phial to Frodo, it was not only an item of illumination but also a reminder of the light that could guide them through the darkest times.
