Throughout its history, Khazad-dûm flourished, exemplifying the pinnacle of Dwarven ingenuity. The vast subterranean kingdom comprised numerous levels, rich with forges, halls, bridges, and tunnels—each showcasing master craftsmanship that even captivated the Elves. Eventually, as various clans of Dwarves converged after the cataclysmic events during the First Age, the kingdom expanded, harnessing the skills and knowledge from contacts with the Elves, notably Celebrimbor.
With this newfound alliance, they reinforced the passageways leading to the other side of the mountains, creating the Doors of Durin—significant both for their artistry and their elusiveness. These enchanted doors showcased designs symbolizing friendship between the Elven artisans and the Dwarves.
