The very inception of the Elves traces back to a time when they awakened on the continent of Aman, known as Cuiviénen. Here, they were subjected to the dark influence of Melkor—who would later become known as Morgoth—leading to turmoil and the creation of a counterforce, the Orcs. In response to this chaos, the Valar took action and imprisoned Morgoth, subsequently inviting the Elves to Valinor, a realm filled with divine light and beauty.
This invitation was not universally accepted, and the initial response varied among the Elves. As the Valar sent emissaries like Oromë to counsel the different groups, three major factions emerged: the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the Teleri. Each faction developed distinctive traits and philosophies, shaping the tapestry of Elvish culture as we know it.
