In Tolkien's universe, elves are categorized into three main groups: the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the Teleri. Legolas belongs to the Sindar branch of the Teleri elves, who were known for their craftsmanship, particularly in boat-making. While skilled, Legolas's combat prowess is considered less formidable when compared to the Noldor, who exhibit greater power, as represented by the character Glorfindel in Rivendell. Tolkien, however, intentionally chose to balance the power dynamic within the Fellowship, opting for Legolas rather than a more potent contender.
