To understand the perplexity of black holes, one must first grasp their physical makeup. A black hole is born when a massive star collapses under its own gravity, resulting in an incredibly dense point in space, often referred to as a singularity. This singularity can contain a mass millions of times greater than that of the Sun, compressed into a space smaller than a baseball. The gravity around this dense region is so intense that not even light can escape, making it appear 'black' against the cosmic backdrop.
