The Humble Beginnings
NVIDIA was founded in 1993 by three engineers - Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis R. Priem. The trio met while working at Sun Microsystems and decided to start their own company, initially meeting at a Denny's diner in East San Jose to hash out their vision.
Their goal was to create computer chips that could power 3D graphics and video games - a novel idea at a time when PCs were still relatively basic machines. Despite skepticism from investors and Huang's own mother, the founders persevered, eventually securing $20 million in funding from Sequoia Capital.
